How does market research apply to property management?
Q. My mom wants to get into property management and the job descriptions all include "market research"? What kind of market research would you do for apartment buildings? She was a property manager for 3 buildings for 27 years and she never did or even heard of such a thing. What kind of background do you have to have?
Asked by Mountain Mike - Thu Feb 12 22:47:02 2009 - - 2 Answers - 1 Comments
A. Market research in this case means a basic knowledge of the housing market (rentals) in your area. It might include knowing strategies to improve a complex, or buildings profitability, or how to persuade the tenants to be more timely in their payments. It's not any one skill set, but several. In other words, the days of simply collecting rent are over. But if your mom is a quick study, she might be able to persuade them to give her a try, based on her previous experience. Good luck to her!

What is a good market research company for business start-ups in the UK?
Q. I am looking to start a new business but I am cautious and want to find if their is a market for the service that my company would be providing. Also I am looking for quantitative market research. Thanks in advance.

A. Specifically for start-ups, I would suggest Marketest. They specialize in providing quantitative market research for new business ideas. There are of course others too but its best to stick with companies who have expertise in a specific area.

What are the best ways to conduct market research for a business on a small budget?
Q. I am starting a business that has not been started yet, and I need to conduct some market research to answer some of the questions about the business. I was thinking about just going to the mall and giving people a questionare, but there has to be an easier way. Are there any websites that offer market research solutions for small businesses? I need to create a survey/questionare and have a few hundred people answer it. Does anyone know how I can do this. Thank you very much. Yes I am on a budget, but I can spend about $1,000. If I could spend less that would be great, but I do have a little money to spend.

A. If you're on a budget, then actual footwork is the best way to go. Dress nicely, then develop a very short but concise questionnaire. There are websites available but they are pricey, as well as there's nothing like developing relationships with the public. Also, the interviewee might be willing to give you their contact information, which you can use when you're finally in business.

What is the best way to conduct market research for a computer repair business?
Q. Me and a friend are considering starting our own computer repair business, however we'd like to carry out some market research before deciding to invest any money. The only strategy we have thought of so far is to stand in a crowded shopping mall and ask people to complete a survey but we doubt this will be effective. I would appreciate any suggestions on other types of market research or confirmation that surveying is a good method and also how many people we should survey to make our data credible.

A. Have you ever heard of The Local Index? It s a new site that provides local businesses a free website to showcase their products & services. It works like myspace but for local businesses. I think it would be a great way for you to get the exposure that you are looking for. They also have a contact Importer to import current customers to your new store, with announcements to keep them updated on your business. Local Business events, networking events and a whole lot more. The Goal of this site is to reintroduce the concept of local businesses to consumers as the hip, hot new thing. Instead of Pizza Hut, Walmart, Circuit City and Etc. Business Samples: Auto Clothing Food & Dining Spa

Also try doing this, go online and search for the types of jobs you want and look at there requirements. That should give you a good idea at what to major in. Best of Luck, Keep your GPA high!!!

Any inexpensive tools/ways to get some market research/survey done for a US based service company?
Q. I am trying to launch a consumer service oriented company (in training and consultancy fields) and trying to reach some small companies, managers/executives etc of other companies to see if there is a need for such service. Can someone point to me ways to get concept viability checked? I have draft of 4-5 questions that I would lilke to ask to my target audience. DO I need to engage market research firm? How do I get database (listing) of my target audience?
Asked by Webistant - Sun Jul 20 15:30:55 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I would hire a telemarketing firm to do it. You can buy a list from a list broker, it will probably be about 20 cents per contact with a minimum of about $200 cost. The telemarketing will be about $25/hour. If you get a good diverse list that well-represents your target market, you may need as few as 100 responses to have a good result to work from. You may need to have an incentive to offer your targeted group in order to get them to answer.

How difficult is the subject of Market Research?
Q. I'm a marketing/management student and I'm kind of undecided right now. I am absolutely terrible at mathematics, yet I think I can do quite good in the qualitative part of the Market Research syllabus. Will I be at a complete disadvantage if I take up Market Research despite having problems even in basic business statistics? I'm also terrible with statistical tools such as Microsoft Excel.

Where do i begin with market research for opening a sex shop online?
Q. I am seriously considering opening an online sex shop. I want to take this seriously and properly so I need to do some market research but I haven't a clue where to start!? Any advice?

A. Do searches based on what your business would promote and see what results come up nationally and internationally. Look at how your potential competitors run their on-line businesses. Also make searches using the words and phrases that your potential customers would use. See whether there's any difference in the businesses that top the rankings. Consider narrowing the searches to specific products as that will give you a better idea if you can create a website that will achieve a decent ranking. If you're in the UK, speak to your local Business Link or visit their website for information on conducting market research. Good luck!

How can I carry out good market research?
Q. I am wanting to set up a small business selling stuff online although I want to make sure I get pricing/goods right. Does anyone know any really good methods of market research which doesnt involve asking on the street. Thanks
Asked by LJK-23 - Mon Jun 9 15:39:04 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Contact your local Business Link for lots of free help and information on starting in business. They have guidance on various ways of doing market research and sometimes have advisors who specialise in internet business. There's a lot of research that you can do on-line by looking at the sites of businesses that sell similar products. Don't get too hung up on price. Even if people's first question is how much, they're usually more interested in the quality of the product or service you provide and whether it's really suitable for them. As long as you can satisfy those needs for them, price is a secondary consideration. Good luck!

Flying certain people to the poles of the earth to "report" on global warming is 1,000,000 times more of a waste of our resources and hypocritical. Market research for a start-up casino party business?

I know several of the businesses that are always busy so that leads me to believe there is plenty of business but I need to quantify it. I appreciate any help.
